Teaching Assistant
The Office of Research Computing is looking for a teaching assistant for IT&C 530, a 3 credit course on scientific computing taught through BYU Online. We are hiring for fall semester, but would prefer someone who can also work the coming winter semester. Most of the course material is available here, feel free to look it over to see if you think you'd be a good fit.
Your job will consist primarily of helping students with C++, Julia, and Linux, and grading assignments relating to the same topics. You should thus be:
- Proficient in modern C++. Most of the time you spend helping students will involve debugging their C++ code.
- Decent at Linux. You'll help students use bash, navigate a file system, and move files around from the shell.
- Decent at Julia, or able to learn it quickly. If you've used Python before it won't be hard to pick up.
We prefer applicants with knowledge of at least a few of the following:
- Git
- Slurm
- Make and CMake
- Grep/sed/awk
- Threading (OpenMP and std::jthread)
- MPI and MPI I/O
- GPU programming
